Adluk Taruq

Agar khayalas karikh qulf ti takhayul baneov aseer
Sajji kya daaman samajuk mokhti ross, laagith zanjeer
Agar khootz aech bandh karith raat kis angatiss
Wuchav kith peath adluk taruq ti noor e benazeer
Agar afsaan e hayaat faqat aalimas nish rotuth

Yii bujar kya banakh kith peath almuk faqeer

Agar qalaam buzith wathi dil as tse taas zahn
Chui behtar kitaab saas travith saadun tabeer

Agar fasith gokh khayalan darmiyaan sana
Gai rattin suai razza yeath preznavi zameer

A rough translation of this Kashmiri poem read like this:

The Future Star

If thoughts gets enchained and imagination rendered a prisoner

What grace for a society – unadorned, laying bound in fetters?

If we close eyes in the scare of darkness of the night

How can we see the star of future and the light incomparable?

If you only listen to a savant for the story of life

How can you mellow? how can you become a wanderer of letters?

If ever some new words make your heart ring with unease

Better to renounce thousand books and find the message therein

If you got stuck in the warp of your own thoughts

Grab the rope which your own conscience would determine.
